Comments: Dark brown to grayish-black bark. Develops an extensive taproot as it matures and is difficult to transplant. This is a seedling, it is not grafted. Great for baking. Self pollinating. Best planted in groups. Yields up to 30 bushels of nuts at maturity.They are great for baking. A high value is placed on this tree due to the demand for walnut veneer. Nuts are ready to harvest when you can dent the hull of several nuts with your thumb. Remove hulls immediately after harvesting to prevent staining. After nuts have been dried store them in a mesh bag in a cool, dry place or freeze.
