Classic perennial adds old-fashioned charm to woodland and shade gardens when it blooms in late spring. Dainty, pink and white, heart-shaped flowers dangle from 2-3 ft. stems. Pink Old-Fashioned Bleeding Hearts are often planted with ferns and hostas, as these shade perennials cover the bleeding heart's foliage which goes dormant in the summertime. A low-maintenance perennial, Pink Old-Fashioned Bleeding Hearts are deer resistant. They perform best when planted in full shade to partial shade. Zones 2-9.

Depth:Dig a hole large enough to spread out the roots without bending them. Set crown with buds 1-2" below ground-level. Water in thoroughly.

Flower Form: Heart-shaped (larger than Dicentra eximia) flowers grow on pendulous racemes to 9" long.

Pruning: Remove spent flowers. If spent flowers are not removed, seeds will drop and germinate the following spring. Allow foliage to die back naturally.
Foliage: Finely dissected, medium green leaves.
