Adds refreshing blue color throughout the summer months! Russian Sage is a low-maintenance perennial that grows 3-4 ft. tall. Its finely dissected, grey-green leaves provide a pretty backdrop for the blue flower panicles. The leaves are aromatic when crushed, and the flowers attract butterflies. Whether massed or grown as a specimen plant, Russian Sage is sure to delight. This 1995 Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year is deer resistant and drought tolerant. Grows best in full sun. Zones 4-9.

Fruit: Insignificant, dry capsules with tiny nutlets.

Form: Herbaceous perennial. Nodding clusters of trumpet-shaped 1 inch long flowers.
Flower Form: Small, two-lipped, like tiny snapdragons, in airy 9-12" long panicles on the stem ends.
Soil Requirements: Average well-drained soil. Does not like wet feet.
Growth Rate: Moderate to fast depending on warmth.
Pruning: Cut back in early spring. Can prune back all the way to the lowest bud. Late winter, early spring.
Foliage: Gray-green leaves are opposite on the stems and narrowly ovate, 1-2" long, 1/3 - 3" margins with serrated edges.
