Through the miracle of grafting, this revolutionary tree produces two different, yet equally delicious, apple varieties. Medium- to large-size Liberty apples ripen for harvest in early October, and delicious porcelain-skinned Sundance ripens slightly later near the middle to end of October. Perfect for fresh eating, baking, drying, juice and sauce, these varieties pollinate each other and are disease resistant. Bareroot.

Treated Seed for Better Growth

Gurney's carries premium treated seed for all our sweet corn varieties. Treated seed offers several benefits, including enhanced germination and vigor. The seeds' hard coating protects the seed until the soil reaches the proper temperature, thus allowing for earlier planting. The coating also protects against disease and fungus. Treated seed also flows more smoothly through planters, allowing easy planting of large pots.

All Pea Varieties Are Now Treated

Treated seeds provide extra protection against cold, wet early-spring weather. They also ensure better germination as well as enhanced resistance to soil-borne diseases and fungi, so you can enjoy growing success.

When choosing varieties, keep in mind that “determinates” ripen over 3-4 weeks on bushy vines that do not need staking. “Indeterminate” vines continue to grow and produce fruit up until frost, their large vines needing support.

  • Height: 10 - 15 feet.
  • Spacing: 16 feet.
  • Depth: Plant with the graft 2 inches above the soil.
  • Spread: 15 feet.
  • Sun/Shade: Needs full sun for maximum flower and fruit production.
  • Color: White blossoms.
  • Foliage: Deep green foliage.
  • Blooms: Mid to late Spring.
  • Form: Upright. Deciduous
  • Flower Form: White showy, fragrant blossoms.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained moderately fertile, slightly acidic soils. Tolerates average garden soils, but un-amended heavy clay soils which watering easily and drain poorly should be avoided.
  • Growth Rate: Medium growth rate.
  • Pruning: Prune December to February. There are normally two goals when pruning an apple tree: 1. Initially on young trees to encourage a strong, solid framework 2. On mature trees to maintain shape and encourage fruit production. The best time to prune apple trees is in late Winter or very early Spring before any new growth starts.
  • Fruit: Liberty- Medium to large, bright, shiny fruit with red blush. Sundance- large porcelain to yellow-green fruit often with a pink blush.
  • Pollinator: Self pollinating. Liberty and Sundance.
  • Yield: Approximately 6 to 8 bushels at maturity.
