This unique and easy-care perennial is a fine choice for adding color and movement to your landscape! Plus, it is now available in a ready-to-plant gallon pot. Producing magnificent feathery plumes of wheat-colored seed heads, Feather Reed Grass blooms in late spring and livens up the landscape all the way through winter. Grows 4-5 ft. tall with a 2-3 ft. spread and has an attractive clumping habit. This exotic-looking grass is ideal for use as a screen, accent plant or backdrop for other perennials. Grows best in full sun. Deer tend to avoid. Potted. Zones 4-7.

  • Botanical Name: Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster'
  • Height: 4 - 5 feet.
  • Spacing: 3 - 5 feet.
  • Depth: Plant at the same depth as grown in the pot.
  • Spread: 2 - 3 feet.
  • Sun/Shade: Full Sun
  • Color: Pink changing to creamy white and golden tan.
  • Foliage: Deep green shiny foliage. Narrow green leaves, with a vertical clumping habit.
  • Blooms: May
  • Form: Herbaceous perennials.
  • Flower Form: Plumes of loose, feathery flower heads are carried above the foliage.
  • Soil Requirements: Will tolerate a wide range of soil types, including clay. Prefers moist soil.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast growth rate.
  • Pruning: Early spring. Keep stalks for Winter interest and trim down to within one foot of the ground in early Spring before new growth appears.
