Nova was released from the Nova Scotia breeding program in 1981 and is still one of the highest quality raspberries you can grow. Adaptable to all climates and can be used as a summer-bearer in the far north—Grow as a fall-bearer in the deep south! For areas in between Nova produces 2 crops of large, attractive, firm berries with excellent flavor. Zones 3-8. No. 1, 1-yr. plants.

  • Botanical Name: Rubus idaeus var. 'Nova', Family: Rosaceae (Rose Family)
  • Height: 4-6 feet
  • Spacing: 3 feet
  • Depth: Same as in the nursery. Plant so the roots are below soil level.
  • Spread: 4 feet
  • Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Foliage: Medium green leaves.
  • Blooms: June- Aug
  • Form: Sturdy upright
  • Flower Form: White simple blooms
  • Soil Requirements: Organic, well-drained, slightly acidic, sandy loam soil.
  • Growth Rate: Vigorous growth rate.
  • Pruning: In late Winter, early Spring, prune and thin your raspberry plants. Any time of the year, you can prune out dead or diseased canes.
  • Size: 1/4-1/2 inch flowers
  • Fruit: Medium size, bright red, firm, sweet-tart 3.2 grams
  • Pollinator: Self-pollinating
  • Yield: Heavy yields
